A Different Way Forward With Fibromyalgia
The 4-Pillar Recovery Protocol
Fibromyalgia is not a problem you can solve by throwing one more treatment at it. My framework brings together pain science, pain reprocessing, sleep and whole-person health — so you can understand what is happening, work with your body rather than against it, and build a life that is bigger than your symptoms.
Explore Fibromyalgia Coaching →Your body is not failing you. But the way you are having to live around your symptoms may be.
When you live with pain, fatigue, poor sleep and unpredictable flares, it is easy to end up in a cycle of doing more on a better day, crashing afterwards, resting, recovering and then starting again. It can feel as though your body keeps changing the rules.
The purpose of my Recovery Protocol is to make those rules easier to understand — and to help you build strategies around your own patterns rather than someone else's idea of what recovery should look like.
Four pieces of the same puzzle.
I don't treat these as four separate boxes. We use them to build one personalised picture of what may be influencing your symptoms — then decide what deserves attention first.
Fibromyalgia Mastery
Start by understanding the condition you are actually living with. We look at pain processing, symptom patterns, fatigue, sleep, activity, recovery and the boom–bust cycle so that your body becomes less of a mystery and your decisions become less fear-driven. The aim is not to find a perfect threshold; it is to learn your current capacity, recognise when you are moving beyond it, and build from there.
Understanding gives you something powerful back: choice.Pain Reprocessing & Nervous-System Regulation
Pain is real. The alarm around pain can also become part of the problem. We explore how threat, attention, prediction, fear and safety can shape the pain experience. Where appropriate, I use pain-reprocessing principles to help you test whether a sensation is always a signal of harm and practise responding with greater safety rather than automatically escalating the alarm.
The aim is not to dismiss pain — it is to change the relationship you have with it.Sleep Neuroscience & Recovery
When sleep is poor, everything can feel harder. Instead of handing you another generic list of sleep tips, we look at sleep timing, sleep drive, routines, arousal and the habits that may be keeping sleep fragile. Where appropriate, I draw on CBT-I principles to help create a more reliable foundation for recovery — without turning sleep into another performance test.
Better sleep is not the finish line. It is a foundation for doing more with your days.Whole-Person & Gut–Brain Health
Your symptoms do not happen in a vacuum. We look at nutrition, digestion, routines, stress, energy, environment and recovery — not as a hunt for one hidden cause, but as part of the context around how you feel. The aim is to find changes that are realistic enough to live with, rather than creating another exhausting list of things you must get right.
Whole-person care means making the plan fit your life, not making your life fit the plan.Understand → Regulate → Restore → Rebuild
Recovery is rarely a straight line. We move between these pillars depending on what your body and life are asking of you. A flare may change the priority. Poor sleep may change what movement looks like. Increased confidence may make room for something you have been avoiding. The framework is designed to move with you.
Imagine a life where fibromyalgia is part of your story — not the organiser of it.
The goal is not to promise that you will never have pain again. The goal is to make symptoms less powerful in the way they shape your choices, your confidence and your day-to-day life.
You know what your patterns may be telling you instead of automatically assuming the worst.
You find a middle ground between pushing through and avoiding everything you enjoy.
You build routines that support sleep, energy and recovery without becoming another source of pressure.
You become less afraid of every symptom change and more able to respond thoughtfully.
You begin making room again for relationships, work, movement, travel, interests and the moments that matter to you.
I don't want you to believe me. I want you to understand why we're doing something.
My framework draws on established approaches to fibromyalgia self-management and chronic pain, including education, movement, sleep support, stress management and behavioural strategies. The American College of Rheumatology describes exercise, therapy, sleep care and self-management as important parts of fibromyalgia care.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy also has encouraging evidence in primary chronic back pain, including a 5-year follow-up showing lower pain intensity and improvements in pain-related fear and beliefs in the PRT group. That evidence is important — and it is not the same as evidence from a fibromyalgia-specific trial, so I keep that distinction clear.
This framework complements medical care. It does not replace it.
Coaching does not diagnose conditions, prescribe medication or replace medical assessment and treatment. I work within the scope of coaching and encourage clients to remain connected with the healthcare professionals involved in their care. New, severe or unusual symptoms should always be assessed appropriately.
You don't have to figure all of this out on your own.
We start where you are. We make sense of what is happening. Then we build the next step — carefully, realistically and with the bigger picture in mind.
